MRS. TREGONING 6A
I have had the pleasure of teaching for more than 30 years at Our Lady Queen of Peace. Yet every year it seems like my first. Within each child there are gifts and talents yet to be discovered. I have always felt that an important goal for me is to not only help them discover their own special gifts but how best to develop and use them. I think that challenges, along with the academic opportunities and new experiences, are what bring me back to teaching. Every year is a new year presenting me with young minds that are filled with questions needing answers about people and places from times long since past.
I spend most of my day teaching the history of ancient cultures and the history of our own United States, 1800-1870. The Old Testament in Religion and our sixth grade study of World History complement each other by helping validate our Bible history with the study of people and places of ancient times. American History 1800-1870 is an opportunity to encourage my students to understand and respect our country and its past. I help the students relate the effects technology has had on past cultures, governments and their economies. To learn and understand the events of the past, I incorporate a variety of methods, some as basic as Cornell Note taking, mapping skills, and outlining content. Relying a great deal on our online textbooks and the resources they provide to engage their minds, my students have a balance of conventional and tech learning opportunities. Most days we use the iPads to read from or incorporate apps like Quizlet and Prezi. The students also have a Bible app on their iPads to reference for Religion class.
I have been married 35 years, a mother of two sons and a grandmother of three grandsons. As you can tell, I am outnumbered by the male populations even to include a male Boston terrier and a male Chihuahua.
Teaching in Catholic schools my entire career, I have learned to appreciate the connections between parents, students, and their teachers. I am most grateful for God who has brought me to this place in my life.
